Hello

Hello,
I am so excited that things are looking so good. No Chemo, No Chemo. Just keep saying it. I can't wait to see you. Everyone keeps saying how great you look. Not like they were expecting anything else. Having a one year old sure complicates the whole visiting thing. Especially when he has been sick. I will come visit as soon as I get a couple of hours without David. I just hope we aren't old and grey by then. Or just old, or just grey, oh crap - we are both of those already. Anyway, you are in my thoughts daily and always in my prayers. Can't wait to see you. Donna

Smiles once again!!

Final pathology came back all clear!! So unless the doctor just feels extra froggy she should not have any chemo!

By the way... you all are overwhelmingly awesome and after I win the $128 million tonight I say we all go somewhere nice for the winter!

HIP HIP HOORAY!!!!

BL!! (every time i type 'bl' I wanna just say that out loud. bl... bl... bl... but not "b-l." no, i want to just blabber on the sound "bl" makes. i dont know why. maybe there's something wrong with me.)
anyways, bl, I just wanted to say that i am super stoked that everything went well. I m glad it did even tho gingersnap threw away the plans we drew for you to give your surgeon. I hope your recovery continues to go well. However, if you guys wanted to have a pre-thanksgivingagain next year, feel free bc that was tons of fun!! I love you all and i cant wait to see you!

Happy Happy

Hi, and Happy Saturday!

It was so good to see you last night, I'm real happy you're in your own bed and looking so great! Even in your glasses (Jeff says you look studious in them, not nerdy!) Seriously, you look so good, I would never believe you had such major surgery 3 days ago! Keep up the good healing, and please call if you need anything- even if it's just a sip of water and the cup is too far away...

I love y'all :)

Happy News!

We are HOME!!!! Lots of sleep and healing needed still (and laundry and dishes and vacuuming and....). The worst part about this whole thing is Betty Lynn will soon realize I can clean and do laundry- this may change our home landscape forever!
~Larry

p.s.
She asked me to move a chair into the bedroom so visitors have somewhere to sit so she is expecting people to come by....

Hope you're feeling better!

Hey, Betty Lynn,

I hope you are home today and feeling better. Trish and I are so happy that your surgeons said everything went so well and that your lymphs look clear. You are still on our minds and in our hearts. Stay strong and heal quickly. We love you!

Doug

Latest Update

Second surgeon is finished and reports everything went great!  She is in recovery now and hopefully I will see her soon!

Update from Larry

Since my brother has called me out I guess I will post (thanks for the computer, Ginger)...

First surgeon came out and said all went very well and the sentinel lymph nodes were clear so far.  Next reconstructive surgeon is doing the bionic woman thing right now and making her better than before...  But I am most grateful to the first surgeon for making her well!!!

If I have computer access later I will post again.
Looking vainly for news....was hoping Larry the IT guy would have up to the minute posts....thinking of you, Betty Lynn & Larry....hope everything went well....now please get well soon!!!
Love,
Doug

ps: the time stamp is wrong. It's 1:40 now, not 10:36.

HI FROM DALLAS

Somebody please call me when you know something tomorrow. I will be waiting anxiously. I will probably have to work all day. If you can't get me on my cell phone, my work # is 228 374-0067.
Boo, I love you! I will see you some time on Friday.
Love,
Dallas
(Midge, Michelle was right I logged in under the lake login so it shows from Susan)

Hi from Larry!

We are almost to the day...

The surgery starts tomorrow at about 10:00 and lasts about 4 hours. We will be at the hospital at 8:00 and I probably won't see anyone until after she goes in. There is no telling how she will feel after the surgery so I am not sure how visiting will go. Everyone is welcome anytime- if you can't stay, or for some reason can't see Betty Lynn, we will take pictures so she will kow you were there. We do realize Thanksgiving is the next day and everyone has a life of their own.

I cannot tell you how much your support has meant to Betty Lynn and me. Thank you all for everything!

Saturday's Gathering

BL and Larry - we had a spectacular time on Saturday. We need to do that more often!!
Sure did miss those that couldn't be there - Michelle S. and Michelle G.- hope you feel better.
SherekaJones, it was nice to put a face with that name - and I did give you the option of keeping that table cloth masterpiece and you declined to immortalize it. Remember?
Hope everyone has a nice week.

Lots of love,
Ginger

Hello family and unfamily peeps!! I just wanted to say that I had a blast at dinner last night and i loved seeing all the people! I DO regret that Gingersnap threw away the artwork that Carla, Sydney, and myself worked so hard on, but I sat down and had myself a good cry today and i'll admit, i feel better. After all, it was just a table cloth. we can always draw another one! :)
And Karen, I still have the word "Dorito" on my hand after several scrubbings. Ya know what that means, right? If I hold up my hand and say "hop on one foot!" then that's what you wil do. muahaha!
Larry and Betty Lynn, Im super glad yall put that together! it was a great idea! Good luck with everything this week! I love yall!

Hello all!

Betty Lynn, Larry, Lee, Ginger, Susan, Dallas, & Midge & kids-

Thinking of all of you and keeping you in my prayers!

Betty Lynn, stay strong as I know you can be, and will see you this weekend (if not before)!

Hello from Dallas

Well, I thought I would try this. I hope I am doing this right.
Boo, I have a message from Aunt Margaret (she and Jack were here visiting - they are leaving this morning) She said to tell you that she had breast cancer when she was 42 and had a double masectomy and she is now 88!!!!!!! Boy, if the isn't an encouraging story, huh!!! She is so sweet, she said to tell you Hello and wishes you the best!!! Jack too!
Love ya,
Dal

Hey y'all, hope your weekend was good :)

This morning I trapped a lizard in tupperware and scooted him out the door. As soon as we got out there he flipped over and, how I choose to see it is, played dead. Made me want to bring him right back in and teach him some other tricks. Seriously, it was very convincing. Very.

So later I was crafting, trying to make these little flowers to put on a wreath, and knocked onto the floor an entire, brand new, full-to-the-brim container of the smallest straight pins you've ever seen. They'll be finding their way into my feet for years to come. They are everywhere. I never drop things. Almost never. But when I do it's usually something small and really hard to pick up. Once I dropped an entire case of rainbow sprinkles when I worked at the ice cream shop. Sprinkles. A case of them. At least that was colorful and almost cheerful. Pins are menacing when by themselves on the floor.

Later I went to Peter and Sherry's for dinner and met the puppy who looks like a cross between a mop and a bear. Very very very cute :)

I can't wait to see y'all Sat. Please let me know what to bring, how to help, when to come, what to do...

Love you to pieces!!
Karen

Hospital Visits (from Larry)

I just wanted to let everyone know that both Betty Lynn and I welcome all friends and family at the hospital during the surgery (to hang with me) and afterwards (to hang with BL as she is able)... See you soon!

how to access blog

I am sure there is an intelligent person out there who can do Blogs. John got me into it and I have joined, but to access the Smile Blog, I have to find Larry's original email inviting us to join. This requires going back through all my old emails until I find the right one, than going through the paces with that to get to here! There must be an easier way, but not being the most electronically gifted, I cannot find it!

Hope you are having a great weekend Betty Lynn - you are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Jo

Friday, November 14, 2008

Betty Lynn, you ARE too skinny. Having tissue taken from your back doesn't sound too fun. So you can have some of my tissue if you want. Im pretty sure Ive got more than I need. And I'm just SO generous that i will give u mine. even tho im not ur fav niece! haha just playin!

Pre-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving

I don't think I'll be able to come :(

I have swim meets pretty much every Saturday from now until March. The good news is that I am coaching an AWESOME team. The bad news is that instead of being finished in January, we will continue on from county to state in February and March.

I have practice every week day 4-6 and meets on Saturdays at 6:30.
Maybe I can come by the 22 before I go to the meet!

I'll see y'all soon one way or another! (I hope!)
Hi! Thanks for the update. I'm proud of your strength :)

Thanksgiving won't be the same without you, but I guess this is a darn good excuse for missing it! I'll save you a giblet...

Here's a joke that had Nicole and I laughing til we cried (it was almost 5:30, though and we were pretty fried from the work day so that may be why...)

A blonde woman was speeding down the road in her little red sports car and was pulled over by a woman police officer who was also a blonde. The blonde cop asked to see the blonde's drivers license. She dug through her purse and was getting progressively more agitated. 'What does it look like?' she finally asked. The policewoman replied, 'It's square and it has your picture on it.' The driver finally found a square mirror in her purse, looked at it and handed it to the policewoman. 'Here it is,' she said. The blonde officer looked at the mirror, then handed it back saying, OK, you can go. I didn't realize you were a cop.'

Still laughing!

I love you to pieces!!
Karen

Hi Betty Lynn, We are thinking about you. Sorry we will miss you on Turkey Day. Love you,

Tommy
OH NO!!!!! No Betty Lynn at thanksgiving!? I think we should have a pre-thanksgiving, thanksgiving. Ill even cook so you don't have to!

Mini Mini Update...

I forgot a major thing in my mini update! I decided that I am going to have a bilateral mastectomy. And yes, I'd be in the hospital over Thanksgiving-no turkey for Boo! But, that'd be ok 'cause then I could enjoy Christmas more.
Love,
BL
So Boo, you would be in the hospital over Thanksgiving?

Love, Ginger

Mini Update...

Hello. Well, to answer a few questions...
I will probably be in the hospital only a couple of days. Dr. Elliott's (he's the plastic surgeon) nurse called today to see if I was available(where would I be going?) the Wed. before Thanksgiving because both he and Dr. Burns(my other surgeon) are available that day, but she had to check with Northside about availability. I haven't heard back yet. It's my own tissue they use-they have to get muscle from by back for support(I think that's right, but Larry's not here to double check with) and then it's like I'm an envelope that they fill up and close. Pretty weird! So, that's what I know so far!
Love,
BL

Thanks for the update

WOW, I have been neg-blog-ful. I am all caught up now. I love this blog....thanks Larry!

That is kind of weird about how they have to do that expansion thing. And where are they going to get the tissue? You're too skinny BL... I bet Larry will think he has a NEW trophy wife when they're finished.

So are they just going to let you know when they get everyone scheduled? Did they say how long you have to stay at the hospital?

Love,
Susan

Update from Larry

Thanks for everyone who came by this weekend to model... sorry it must have been while I was picking Duncan up from Midge's house and I missed you. ;)

The appointment went well. The doctor explained all the options and now BL's head is spinning digesting the information while deciding on which direction to go. One of the first decisions is whether or not to have a bilateral mastectomy. The original MRI indicated some non-specific areas that would require monitoring every 6 months and she just may want to do the Christina Applegate thing and move on with life with less worry. Either way the doctor said she would be able to have a beautiful new body afterwards and was very optimistic about reconstruction. Implants will require the use of tissue expanders which they will put in during the mastectomy and gradually increase each week until she reaches her desired size so it isn't going to be a dramatic change right off. Dates for surgery are still up in the air but it will be after Thanksgiving and before Christmas.

You all keep up the excellent posts- it is working!!!
Just wondering how the plastic surgeon appt. went today??

Happy Monday

Hello.
I hope you had a good Monday, BL.
I enjoyed seeing Larry yesterday - he did not ask for me to model or show him anything!!! LOL
Did you guys eat the pumpkin pie?
Love,
M

Auditions??

So Larry,
How many takers did you have today as "models"??
I'm sure that you've been very busy, but I think most of the women, like myself, wanted someone to donate extra to them...we want boobs too and no one seems to know where to get them at. Sooo, I'm sorry that I don't qualify to model or audition for any of the above, unless someone wants to just donate to the cause!...let me know!

Friday, November 7, 2008

Hi everyone!

OK-my husband is a nut! And, Heidi, the first few meals I ate were nachos and chips with salsa. Let's see, I've also eaten Doritos, chewing gum and Chinese food with nuts! I've gained 3 lbs this week!
I LOVE everyone's (even my husband's!)postings!
Love,
BL

Update from Larry

Ok, I am overwhelmed by the offers for both boobular donations and boobular models.... so I think to keep things orderly we should proceed as such...

Anyone (not related to me by blood) willing to make boobular donations can come by this weekend for auditions. Anyone (not related to me by blood) willing to be a boobular model can come by this weekend for auditions. Anyone with pictures of boobs can send them to me at Larry@Strott.com. Anyone with.......

You didn't tell me....

BL,
You didn't tell me that you got your braces off!?!?!? What was the first thing that you ate?

Enjoy the weekend!

Love-Heidi
I want to know where to sign-up for the boobular donation too!:)
Lee

Morning, Sunshine!!

It was awesome to see that beautiful smile, but as always your beauty shines from deep within...has absolutely nothing to do with you new cosmetic improvements!!

wondering how in the hell long it is going to take Becky to figure this out?!!

have a beautiful day!

Thursday, November 6, 2008

Maybe I figured it out... I like karen's response to this confusion... "umm... is this thing on??"

i hope it's on.

Anyway, I wanted to say that this is a brilliant idea... this blog stuff. I feel like its 2008 or something. BL, you're in my thoughts and prayers and I hope everything goes well for ya. I'm glad I got to be graced with your presence this past weekend. Or is it that you were graced with mine? haha. There's nothing I love more than a good jump on a trampoline! I cant wait till thanksgiving, and I cant wait until this is all just part of our past! you'll do great! Much love!

special offer

*scratching my head, looking for the sign-up list to donate boobular reconstructive materials*
Never having an MRI, I would have thought it would be fast, like a CT scan. And I wonder why it was so noisy. They have to generate a gigantic magnetic field, I suppose the magnet makes the noise from the forces in the wires, or maybe they need big cooling fans. Oh, sorry, I get distracted by that sort of crap.

Glad to hear you guys are doing pretty well. I've been wearing my Livestrong bracelet since Larry called, and I'll keep wearing it until you are well. Every time I see it or feel it on my wrist I think of you.

Stay positive! You are both awesome!
Love,
Doug
There is SO much pressure in a blinking cursor! I will not bow to it, and therefore I will not title this post.

I love this Blog, Larry and BL! I'm gonna name my new dog Blog (wherever and whomever he may be. Unless he already comes with a name. Then I might feel bad about changing it...)

Thanks for the update. I love y'all to pieces. Please call if you need stuff. Any kind of stuff. I've got all kinds of stuff over here.

xoxo,
Karen
I actually got to see the pearly whites last night at dinner! She looks fabulous as always and could not make up her mind on a dinner choice. We also discussed the fact that Laura Sumlin is apparently a blog Nazi....but then again, that is Laura.

Abby's ears should have been burning because we recalled that she never had a free hand to carry anything to the car....one hand had a glass of wine and the other had the bottle! Good times for sure.

BOO- I love you let us know what you know when you feel like it!
Johnna

Hey

Well reconstructive surgery doesn't sound too bad! BL you already are a beautiful woman! I would just be so jealous!! You just wouldn't be able to be in my "club" any more! ha,ha!
Well, I/we will continue to pray for you and the doctors for wisdom and healing! What did they say about possibly getting a second opinion? Feel my prayers!
Love ya,
Cindy

Update from Larry

We don’t know too much more than before except she will have to have surgery. At that time they will test lymph nodes and determine the stage of cancer we are dealing with. Her choices are lumpectomy or mastectomy, however, in her case the doctor said it was basically the same thing but with a mastectomy she was entitled to reconstructive surgery whereas with a lumpectomy she was not. Plus the mastectomy was more likely to produce the results we wanted with cancer eradication-and breast enhancement (smile)! Because she is still spry the doctor said they would probably recommend chemo to prevent reoccurrence.

Either way we both are doing well with the information received.

You all are awesome!!!!

Hi

Hi BL,
I have been thinking about you all day. Spoke with Abby, and so is she. Please let us know how your apt. went. Also, how do those pearly whites look? Love you, Donna

Dude, where's a braceless picture of yer FACE?

I'm waiting for the glamour shot to be posted...

*tapping foot*

Yep....still waiting....

*refreshing blog page*

Hmmmm....not here yet...

*curling up to take a nap and wait*

jokes and jokes and jokes

A panda walks into a bar, sits down and orders a sandwich. He eats the sandwich, pulls out a gun and shoots the waiter dead. As the panda stands up to go, the bartender shouts, "Hey! Where are you going? You just shot my waiter and didn't pay for your sandwich!" The panda yells back at the bartender, "Hey, I'm a PANDA! Look it up!" The bartender opens his dictionary and sees the following definition for a panda:

" A tree dwelling marsupial of Asian origin, characterized by distinct black and white coloring. Eats shoots and leaves."

Ahahahahah
Seemed like your kind of humor. Have a nice day.

TMVBFFBL

IT FRUSTRATES THE HECK OUT OF ME TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE YOU LOVE SO MUCH AND THINK OF SO OFTEN AND YET HAVEN'T STAYED IN TOUCH WITH AS YOU WISHED YOU HAD...BUT THEN IT MEANS SO MUCH TO KNOW THAT YOU KNOW HOW MUCH YOU ARE LOVED AND WHO YOU CAN COUNT ON WHEN THERE IS A NEED!!
BL, YOU HAVE ALWAYS FACED EVERY DIFFICULT SITUATION WITH SUCH STRENGTH AND THERE IS NO DOUBT YOU WILL DO THE SAME AGAIN! YOU ARE ALWAYS SUCH AN INSPIRATION TO OTHERS AROUND YOU...IT IS MY GUESS YOU WILL BE THE ONE MAKING US SMILE...BUT I FOR ONE AM GOING TO GIVE IT MY BEST SHOT!!

HAVE A WONDERFUL SUNDAY AND KNOW YOU ARE SURROUNDED WITH LOVE AND THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TODAY AND IN THE DAYS THAT LIE AHEAD!!

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU AND YOUR PRECIOUS FAMILY...MAY HIS FACE SHINE UPON YOU AND GIVE YOU HIS PEACE.

Hi Everyone. Good idea girls! (and Larry)
It was good to talk with you today, BL. Just remember what Shari said about you being HOT and you will smile!!

Hey Boo

Glad to hear you actually took advise from an Auburn fan and a blonde! What is this world coming to?

Boo, know that we are all here for you whatever you need....especially laughter as it is an important part in all healing. Mom and Dad send their love and prayers and you have all of mine as well. Hope to see you some time next week!
Love you! Johnna
Hello to Strott Central!
and the Golden sisters!
I love you all and will be praying for
good news on the MRI results. I am off to
the beach...to celebrate an 8 year old friends
birthday!
xo
HI. Susan asked about the MRI and yes, part of the problem was the noise-it was very loud and I was wearing earplugs! It's also hard not to move for close to an hour. Next time I'll ask for a valium!
BL
Hey all, this is a great idea - I have not ever blogged before so bear with me til I get used to it!!

Thanks for the update on the MRI and enjoying your weekend by relaxing is a great idea!

Can't wait to see you after you get those braces off!!

Lots of love.
Talk to ya soon.
Ginger

MRI

Hi. Well, the MRI went ok. But, I hope I never have to have another one!! I still won't know anything until next Thursday when Larry and I go to see Dr. Burns. I'm just going to relax and enjoy my weekend and looking forward to Monday when I get my braces off!
Happy Saturday everyone!

Betty Lynn's Smiles

The purpose of this blog is to have a central place to post information about Betty Lynn. I named it Smiles because of the overwhelmingly heartwarming response we received from our friends and family when we shared the news with them. Feel free to post anything you feel will help make her laugh and encourage her as we work through this. Thank you!

~Larry
